The Board of Directors is committed to the growth and success of Alterna. They work with the leadership team to set our credit union's strategic direction and approve and oversee the implementation of business plans that align with the needs of our members and the broader community.
Eligible members can be nominated to join the Board, and members can vote in board elections. By exercising your right to vote in Alterna Savings' elections, you are participating in the democracy of your financial co-operative.
How does the nomination and election process work?
Board of Director elections are held every year to fill open director positions.
A Nominating Committee, comprised of sitting board members, is responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of the director nomination and election process.
The nomination period is now open and runs until November 24th, 2025 at 4:00 pm (ET).
The Board Candidate Information Webinar was held on October 16th, 2025. If you missed it, you can still watch a recording by registering here. This is an excellent opportunity for interested candidates to learn more about the Board, the nomination and election process.
The Nominating Committee reviews and evaluates all nominations and determines which candidates it will recommend to the membership for election. All qualified candidates, whether recommended or not, are entitled to stand for election.
Elections open in early March. Elections are conducted via electronic voting in advance of Alterna's Annual General Meeting in April. The results are announced at the Annual General Meeting.
For any questions about our Nomination and Election Process, please contact our Corporate Secretary at board.candidate@alterna.ca.
Who can be nominated?

Detailed eligibility requirements will be made available through our Board Candidate Information Kit, which is posted on our website.
What is the time commitment for Board Members?

Each director is expected to prepare for and attend Board meetings and to sit on a maximum of two of the board committees. In addition, Board members are expected to attend additional retreats or meetings as required from time to time.
